Week in Review 9/24/10

See? I told you I'd be back. And by "you," of course, I mean "me." As I am surely the only person aware of this blog's existence.

Hi, Me!
Hey, what's up?
Just checking out your/my blog.
Great! What do you/I think?
Needs work.

Note to self: Don't type everything that comes into your head.
Got it.

Three highlights worth mentioning this week:

1. Drawing Excitement with Thomas Kinkade, a drawing instruction DVD that I picked up from the library. I renewed it twice before finally watching it (another one of those "when we get around to it" things). Now that we've seen the first 8 or so lessons, I'm hoping for another week's extension from the library.

He calls it Lighthouse on a cliff with boat in the water.

Yeah, "literal" is a one accurate adjective for this kid.

2. Our history readalouds. They correspond with Chapter 6 of Story of the World, Volume 3:

You Wouldn't Want to Sail on the Mayflower by Peter Cook. We haven't yet met a You Wouldn't Want to . . . book that we didn't love.

The Pilgrims at Plymouth, a Landmark Book by Lucille Recht Penner. Very informative! I understand there are people who hunt down and collect these Landmark Books. I can see why.

On the Day Peter Stuyvesant Sailed into Town by Anold Lobel. This book is a gem. It's written by the Frog and Toad guy, and it rhymes. (Yes, I know. I have very strict criteria for bestowing "gem" status on a children's picture book.)

Math games on Monday.
What. You don't play math games with Lego Star Wars minifigures? Oh, I highly recommed it. Nearly everything is better with Lego Star Wars minifigures. We read to our Lego Star Wars minifigures. We re-enact Mayflower adventures with our Lego Star Wars minifigures. As I type, an epic battle for a liberated civilizaton is taking place with Lego Star Wars minifigures.

Yes, in this house we love the Lego Star Wars minifigures.

This time

I've "started a blog" at least six times now, but this time--this time--I mean it.

Seriously.

I'm coming back here on Friday to post my first "Week in Review." You'll see.

This time I mean it.
